i won!

Undoubtedly, the best part of my week last week was winning over many other student designers in the fgi winter fashion show on thursday! the dress that won was one from a 48 hour design competition. for the competition, each contestant had to go pick out fabric from the remnants in the CSU sewing lab on friday, and then on saturday morning we were emailed the sinario. We then had until 48 hours later to create a garment with in the sinario. Our sinario was origami, and luckily I had chose lots of fabrics to I had lots of variety to choose from. I ended going with a black, gray and teal color theme and worked 8 hours the first day and over 9 hours the second. the dress includes 32 folded triangle around the waist, similar to origami. each triangle was inferfaced, and backed with a different color than the front to create more of a contrast. that one was challenge and sure took lots of work, but i was ultimately very pleased with the product! I also entered a dress into the general submission category. This dress was a fun, voluminous, magenta, purple and silver one on which I tried doing different things on. For the bodice I pieced together geometric shapes and on the skirt i draped the fabrics by tacking it randomly together to create lots of volume. this one i think was my favorite of the two because it was something i had been thinking about for such a long time.
my prize was a $100 gift card to the outlets of colorado (with which i bought 3 new pairs of boots!) and a $30 starbucks giftcard. even if i hadnt won, i would never trade the experience for anything! i loved loved loved it, and i am so exciting for what i will be doing in my future! :D

15 things i've learned in college

1. Living in a small room with someone is great, but not great at the same time. I love having someone there, and when Kayla is gone I get lonely sometimes. However, I really wish i could be alone other times.
2. Dorm food gets old in about 3 weeks, so it has been old for quite some time. I miss home cooked food so much.
3. Tac n' Stick really doesn't work very well.
4. Sleeping on a twin is interestingly very comfy and cozy, I like it alot.
5. Trying to juggle class, homework, clubs, new friends, old friends, working out, and a social life is not easy.
6. My next door neighbors love video games. They love them turned up loud, especially when I want to do some homework, or sleep.
7. There is an amazing things that happens when I have to use the bathroom, I walk towards the door and on the other side, my suite mate locks the door for a 20 minutes shower. That has happened more times than is logical.
8. Squirrels on campus are scary. They're intimidating, and are not afraid to jump at you, or race you down a path, or run in front of your bike.
9. The ice in the lobby is the BEST. My ice chewing habit has really gotten worse since I've been here.
10. Sewing on a dorm desk is not a clean experience. There is hardly any space to begin with, what with books and fish tanks everywhere.
11. I can keep things alive! I have had a fish and a plant, and kept them alive since the about the first month of school!
12. If you don't put in effort, you will get absolutely nothing out.
13. I am bad at keeping my desk clean.
14. I am good at finding cheap groceries!
15. There are amazing people everywhere, and you really can't think you know about people's lives because everyone has their own, intense, special story. Getting to know people to that point is something really great.

transition... check

so i've done it, i have moved out. Crazy isnt it!? I am loving college so much, it is so fun. the thing that really shocks me the most is just how fast time flys here. i honestly am amazed thinking that it is already november. My classes are pretty good, my favorite is fashion industries, mainly because my teacher is very laid back yet has so much knowledge, plus i love the topic so i enjoy learning about it. My hardest class is chemistry followed by psychology. i am really just looking forward to being out of those next semester, and hopefully getting a good grade in them. I am a member of FGI at csu, which is the student chapter of fashion group international. we meet every tuesday and basically talk about volunteer opportunities and events put on by the professional denver chapter. I really love it. currently i am on the publicity team for the winter fashion show "Behind the Seams: Backstage Exposed", and i am also designing 2 pieces for it! one is part of a 48 hour design competition that i will be doing next week, and the other is just an open entry. Hopefully i will have enough time to get both of them done! as far as friends, i have made some really great ones. I met a girl names Amy Alas, who is my friends roommates friend. She is so much fun and we have clicked for sure. i basically spend all my weekends with her since Jake goes home and Kayla is with her boy friend constantly. I am so thankful to have met her! I have also become rather close with the people on the other side of my floor. There are so many different personalities and it is just nice to have a variety of people to hang out with. I am getting pretty sick of the food here, i really wish i had some good home cooked food more often because i definately had no idea how good i had it! I miss things about home, but i am also really enjoying living on my own and making my own decisions

and now, i am going to my weekly sunday night dinner with my friendies, so more later :)

all grown up

I have been slowly coming to the realization that in just a few short months, I'll be moving out of my home. It is a terrifying thought really, and one that I don't really know if I am ready to accept quite yet. However, I am so very ready to be going to college. If it is possible for me not to be ready to leave, but be ready to go, that is where I am at. Regardless, I have begun this blog in effort to record the comings and goings of my college life at Colorado State University and where ever else life may take me.
